Limit on Luton Airport expansion is under threat

The binding planning limit on passenger numbers at Luton Airport is under threat – from the airport operator which has driven growth twice as fast as originally indicated and breached noise planning conditions as a result.

London Luton Airport Operations Ltd has filed initial documents on Luton Borough Council’s planning portal to set the scene for a move to expand past its 18 million passenger limit – 8 years ahead of properly being able to do so and without having mitigated its growing noise.

You can find out more about how Luton Airport has breached its noise planning conditions on our page covering the breach of noise conditions.

The planning moves can be seen under reference 19-01006-EIASCR on the Luton Portal.
