Myth busting

Aviation is riddled with jargon and technical detail which can put people off taking part in consultations and making their voices heard. Part of our job is to demystify this industry so that people feel confident to express their views, particularly when so many living all around Luton Airport are angry and frustrated that their quality of life is being increasingly degraded as the airport capacity expands, and its noise and emissions increase.

Equally, the aviation industry is a very powerful and effective lobby, continually spinning a positive story to government about how essential it is to the national economy, while overlooking or minimising its impacts on the local and global environment. Airlines are becoming increasingly adept at portraying how “green” they are, to lull people into a false sense of security about booking yet more flights. The industry even has a lobby called “Sustainable Aviation”, which in our view is a complete misnomer.

These pages will present the facts and ask the questions that will help to bust the myths and counter the misleading spin. Do contact us at info@ladacan.org if you have any topics you’d like us to add.
